Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the physical installation, configuration, and maintenance of data centre hardware. This includes racking servers, network equipment, cabling, and ensuring all installations meet quality and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a basic understanding of data centre operations.


 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Hardware Installation: Rack, stack, and secure servers, network devices, and other hardware in data centre cabinets.
  • Cabling and Connectivity: Perform structured cabling (Ethernet, fibre optics, and power cables) with a focus on cable management and labelling for easy identification.
  • Hardware Configuration: Assist with initial power-on and connectivity testing for newly installed devices.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory, configurations, and installation procedures. Update data centre documentation as necessary.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve basic hardware issues. Collaborate with the Network and Systems teams for advanced troubleshooting and support.
  • Quality Control: Ensure installations meet safety, quality, and operational standards, following best practices for airflow, load balancing, and weight distribution.
  • Maintenance and Upgrades: Assist with hardware replacements, upgrades, and decommissioning of end-of-life equipment.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to data center policies, safety guidelines, and security protocols. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Communication: Coordinate with team members, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate installation of equipment.


 

Requirements:

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within a data center or IT infrastructure environment.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of server hardware, networking, and data center equipment.
  • Experience with structured cabling (Ethernet, fiber optic).
  • Familiarity with tools such as power drills, cable testers, and screwdrivers.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and handle equipment up to [weight, e.g., 50 lbs]. Comfortable working in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required):
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+
  • Data Center Technician (DCT) Certification
  • ITIL Foundation
