Background
Our primary production workload runs on Cisco UCS with 100% VMware attached to Infinidat storage through a brocade director with NetApp file services. Our UCS environment is setup in UCS domain pods each with two Fis, two racks, 8 chassis max. We name them UCS6, UCS7, UCS8 and UCS9. The newest domain, UCS9, is an xSeries with 6494 Fis, UCSX-9508 Chassis and UCSX-210C-M6 blades. This environment is 100% managed by Cisco Intersight which is their SaaS monitoring and configuration platform. The older domains are connected to Intersight, but still have UCSM management. The equipment for UCS9 was purchase 2 years ago. There was suppose to be an environment in Yarmouth and one in Dallas. Things have change were we recently moved the Dallas equipment to Yarmouth and added it to the UCS9 domain there. So, we only have UCS9 in Yarmouth, where the other domains have a pod at each site. Since the purchase of this equipment there have been delay after delay in getting it installed. This was a result of firmware bugs, a shift in Tyler priorities and lack of training on this new type of UCS equipment.
Current Problem
We have yet to have implemented a fully functional and complete UCS9 environment. We trying to add the new hosts from Dallas to Yarmouth, we ran into a firmware issue where Cisco recommended that we upgrade firmware as the particular issue was fixed in the new firmware. That upgrade was done last weekend. At the same time we had several events occur in our environment that may not have been directly related to that work, but it is affected those hosts. This has lead us to wanting to have someone come in and finally finish the build out of UCS9 and ensure it was configured using best practices.
Scope
Mainly our Yarmouth datacenter
Finish the buildout of UCS9 according to best practice.
Perform a health check on that environment.
Review UCS6, 7 and 8 for health and best practices.
Maybe review the Dallas UCS domains.
Provide Cisco UCS support as required during the term.
Train and Knowledge transfer staff.
