Job Description:

 

Description: A Database Administrator (“DBA”) is responsible for the documentation, design, implementation, and maintenance of the databases underlying the Agency’s Java, .net and SQL-based systems. The DBA will support multiple instances of these databases in several environments that are used throughout the application development and deployment lifecycle. In addition to the usual DBA skills, such as object design and creation, back-up and recovery, and buffer pool tuning, the DBA should be very familiar with database tools and utilities, physical data modeling, and SQL optimization and performance.

 

-Work with internal and external customers to analyze and determines information needs and elements; data relationships and attributes, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.

 

 

-Proven ability to take project requirements and the logical data model and create the following:

 

-A physical data model optimized for DB2/zOS environment

 

-A document representing details how the implementation will conform to required agency standards

 

-In response to changes to the Java, .net and SQL-based applications, the DBA will collaborate with the Java, .net and SQL development teams and be responsible for detailed DB design, implementation, testing, and deployment ensuring the technical integrity of the project.

 

-Provide SQL performance tuning on both OLTP and Data warehouse environments. Optimize DB2 resource utilization by tuning queries (static and dynamic), recommending indexes, and configuring database parameters

 

-Engage in data mining activities needed to support management requests for information, assist in analysis of application errors, and define and execute queries needed to repair data in support of problem resolution. Provide trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management

 

-Responsibilities will span all aspects of DB design, maintenance, performance optimization, monitoring, and operational support. This includes DB disaster recovery and development of backup and archiving solutions.

 

-Provide on-call rotational 24/7 Incident Response to database alerts from production monitoring tools and Command Center personnel

 

Qualifications: Desires the knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to 4 years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields, supplemented by evaluation of 6 years of heavy DB2 zOS database administration experience and production support in a MVS-z/OS environment. The skills, training and 

experience a qualified DBA must possess include, without limitation: -Technical expertise in MVS-zOS environment -Technical expertise in DB2 V8 and above -Detailed knowledge of logical and physical DB design, performance monitoring and tuning, definition of alert thresholds -Detailed knowledge of stored procedures (COBOL and NATIVE), triggers and UDFs, RMF and use of SMF data. -Strong experience with DB2 Utilities, SPUFI, QMF, OSC, BMC-DB2Mon, and PowerDesigners -Preferred experience with J2EE environments and UDB on LUW
