Position Summary
We are currently seeking a Data Analyst which will report to the Data Curation Lead within the Office of Data Governance and Analytics.? This role will create and manage metadata and other data governance functions required by the Virginia Office of Data Governance and Analytics.
Key responsibilities for the role include (but are not limited to):
Maintaining and administering the Commonwealths Business Glossary
Supporting the identification, implementation and consumption of metadata and data modelling tooling
Supporting the capture and derivation of data lineage
Supporting and contributing to the creation and maintenance of data models

Technical Job Responsibilities
Business Glossaries/Data Catalog
oResponsible for the maintenance of a data catalog and business metadata associated with strategic data assets
oSupport the build out of data taxonomy, data dictionary and business glossaries of data assets
oSupport on-boarding of domain data sources to the data catalog
Metadata
oWork with business analysts and solution designers to identify critical data elements and capture the metadata relating to them
oOversee the maintenance of metadata artifacts, reporting and escalating where appropriate, resolving issues, gaps and inconsistencies
oDocument the lineage of data from creation to output, ensuring that the information is useable and meets the business needs
oComplete metadata and data quality audits, act on findings as necessary, and report audit progress
oRespond to questions from various teams, troubleshoot issues, and update metadata as needed
oDocument and maintain classification and sensitivity standards.
Other
oUtilize task tracking tools such as JIRA to keep stakeholders updated on progress
oPerform self-management tasks such as: monitoring progress, providing summaries of progress, assisting in risk identification, and monitoring mitigation responses
oPerform assigned duties to assist the Office of the Chief Data Officer or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. May be required to work during hours not regularly scheduled for work, as directed by the supervisor.
Required Experience
1-2 years working as a data analyst with experience collecting, organizing, and managing data using tools such as Purview or Azure Information Protection
Experience with SQL and an understanding of data and systems' infrastructures
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong work ethic and positive attitude to get things done
Strong communication and organizational skills
The selected candidate must continually meet requirements of the Conflict-of-Interest Act, pass a fingerprint background check, and also sign and adhere to the Confidentiality Statement at the end of this document.
Desired Experience
Azure and/or Data certifications; experience in a big-data environment or data security
Knowledge of data governance and security practices; and of technologies, programming and scripting languages, and data tools associated with big-data processing projects.
Strong ability to create Excel formulas and managing complex spreadsheets, (experience working with Pivot tables and other analyst tools as a plus)
Familiarity with Data Protection technology capabilities such as data discovery, data labeling, data inventory, CASB, Microsoft Purview, information rights management, and data loss prevention
