Must Skills: Digital background experience ( experience in Microprocessors/microcontrollers, FPGA design, Memory interfacing, circuit design, with some experience in Python, Labview.etc)
The Component Engineer possesses in-depth knowledge of electronic components and failures modes and serves as a bridge between project teams, component manufacturers, and supply chain to ensure a design meets the project design goals, is manufacturable, and is reliable. The Component Engineer is also responsible for qualification of electronic components for use in extreme, high-reliability environments.
The primary responsibilities of a Component Engineer include (but are not limited to):
Required
Identifying new technology components SOC/IC by keeping up to date on industry developments and trends
Developing and executing component qualification plans for new or unqualified technologies for high reliability applications
Interfacing with internal and external failure analysis (FA) labs to investigate root cause failure and providing recommendations to product groups based on the findings
Managing communications between technology product teams, supply chain, and supporting technology groups (ex. Design for Test, Design for Manufacturing, process knowledge centers)
Advising design engineers in the selection of electronic components based on the electrical performance requirements, proper component usage based on the application environment (i.e electrical de-rating), and overall reliability
Required Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge of component failure modes, component reliability, and component specifications and standards
Knowledge of Hardware circuit board design basics
Understanding of passive components, microcircuit, hybrid, semiconductor, and discrete device fabrication
Knowledge of components used in high-reliability, automotive, or downhole environments
Knowledge of accelerated reliability testing, reliability theory, and component failure analysis
Experience with Cadence PSpice and component modeling, LabView, and/or Python is a plus
Familiarity with the usage and automation of various test equipment including power supplies, ovens, LCR meters, DMMs, and oscilloscopes
Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment
