Summary:
- Responsible for the day-to-day activities/assignments of Computer Operations staff (assigned shifts), and the follow-up of their work performance.
- Responsible for day-to-day operations, ensuring scheduled work is completed on time, as well as accounting for unscheduled production and maintenance. Works closely, and in coordination with, other operators to ensure proper knowledge and task turnover takes place between shifts.

Job/class description:
- Trains, motivates, and guides assigned staff. Assigns, reviews, and approves the work of assigned staff. Provides input to management regarding staff performance.
- Manages the daily activities to resolve problems and change management issues. Provides advice/guidance to lower-level Operators on the resolution of complex scheduling conflicts, computer malfunctions, program/system malfunctions and other irregularities.
- Operates and monitors computer system and related equipment, ensuring all batch cycles are completed by deadline. Reads production schedules, job request forms, and job documentation to determine what jobs to run, what procedures to follow and what input data to obtain. Responsible for production systems’ online response time.
- Identifies/monitors and diagnoses system problems, initiates corrective action where possible. Monitors system for possible hardware or software problems Troubleshoots and provides advice on data center equipment problems.
- Compiles and maintains reports relative to computer operations as required. Reviews equipment logs and reports on equipment efficiency.
- Works with IT groups to ensure service objectives are met. Reviews technical support process and products and recommends quality improvements. Reviews all changes scheduled for their shift window and provides orderly transition of new or revised work to succeeding shift as appropriate.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Effective analytical, organizational, communications (verbal and written), customer service skills.
- Storage administrator.
- Able to add storage on Mainframe. Window and Linux experience. Network knowledge.
- Well rounded “Hybrid” Operator.
- Knowledge of console systems, peripheral equipment, computing platforms.

Work environment:
