What You'll Do
- As a Mainframe Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and modernizing our mainframe systems, ensuring they run efficiently and reliably. You will work closely with various IT teams, providing support for system upgrades, performance tuning, and troubleshooting complex issues within our mainframe environment.
System Maintenance & Support:
- Maintain and support our mainframe infrastructure, ensuring the stability and reliability of mainframe applications and systems.
- Perform regular system maintenance, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and applying patches to ensure optimal system performance.
- Collaborate with application development teams to resolve mainframe-related issues and implement performance improvements.
System Upgrades & Optimization:
- Plan, test, and execute mainframe system upgrades and updates, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
- Optimize system performance through tuning, capacity planning, and identifying potential areas for improvement.
- Analyze system usage and resource consumption to provide recommendations for hardware and software optimization.
Security & Compliance:
- Implement and maintain mainframe security protocols to safeguard sensitive data and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure mainframe systems are configured according to security policies and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to identify and address potential security vulnerabilities within the mainframe environment.
Disaster Recovery & Backup:
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure mainframe systems are recoverable in case of an outage or failure.
- Manage data backup and restore processes for mainframe applications, ensuring data integrity and availability.
Collaboration & Documentation:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, application development, and cybersecurity, to support mainframe operations and project initiatives.
- Document mainframe configurations, processes, and procedures, ensuring that knowledge is accessible for both current team members and future hires.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to support teams on mainframe-related inquiries and projects.
What You Know
- 7+ years of experience in mainframe engineering, support, or administration, particularly with IBM z/OS.
- Proficiency in mainframe languages and tools such as COBOL, JCL (Job Control Language), Rexx, VSAM, and CICS.
- Strong understanding of mainframe database systems (e.g., DB2, IMS) and tools.
- Good Understanding of zOS.
- Experience with mainframe monitoring and performance tuning tools like CA-7, OMEGAMON, or Tivoli.
- Familiarity with mainframe security tools (e.g., RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret) and security best practices.
- Knowledge of SOAP/Restful Services.
- Datacom is a PLUS.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Applications, or related field.
