Mainframe Lead Developer

Job Description

The Senior Developer should be comfortable with maintaining and supporting mainframe infrastructure and processes for financial systems. Our mission is to architect secure, resilient, scalable, self-sustaining, performant, cost effective, and self-healing infrastructure for supporting critical business needs. Candidate should be able to continuously improve the software delivery processes and practices. The ideal candidate will have excellent troubleshooting skills and a strong sense of ownership.

Qualifications:

• Experience with a wide variety of Mainframe(zOS & VSE) programming languages including, but not limited to, APSCOBOL, APSCICS, JCL, PLI

• Expertise in Mainframe tools like ChangeMan, SPUFI, SYNCSORT, ICETOOL, File-Aid

• Should be able to handle SQL programming in DB2, UDB, MSSQL server and Azure SQL.

• Hands-on Experience with scripting in Bash, PowerShell, Shell and Cold Fusion.

• Familiarity with IBM Sterling Connect Direct, IBM MQFTE, and other file transfer tools/protocols.

• Experience with time-sensitive application support processes including logging, monitoring, alerting tools. 

• Experience with multi-platform application integrations.

• Experience building and deploying scalable, highly available Mainframe solution architectures and recovering from disaster.

• Familiarity with standard IT security practices such as Identity and Access Management, Change Management. 

• Expertise in Retail Domain, especially with Financial Costing and Accounting, Promotional Contracts and Supply Chain lifecycle.

• Should be a quick learner for adapting to new technologies and designing interfaces with existing architecture.

• Strong analytical problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the application support team responsible for development and support of applications which run on Mainframe (zOS & VSE), Unix & Cold Fusion platform.

• Administer and resolve applications issues, provide updates, and perform root cause analysis with exhaustive remediation documentation.

• Supervise all alerts related to application and system procedures and provide services proactively.

• Coordinate with Kroger stake holders and third-party teams to resolve application and system issues of all complexities.

• Be a technical advisor and perform troubleshooting to resolve technical challenges.

• Provide expert insights on System architecture and designs for enhancements and new interfaces based on performance, reliability & feasibility, including modernization of Mainframe.

• Collaborate with enterprise architects & product managers to iterate on the design & implementation.

• Coordinate with development and QA teams in executing code migrations to production systems and transitioning responsibility for ongoing maintenance and support.

• Aid in standardizing process to industry best practices and gain access to world-class capabilities

• Support day-to-day business operations in above applications handling millions of records of time sensitive data present in different data structures such as files and database and suggest fixes to complex issues by thorough analysis of root cause and impact of the defect.

• Suggest and implement Process Improvement leveraging automation to reduce manual effort.

• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.

• Coordinate with multiple geographically distributed teams.
