Network Engineer
Suwanee GA (Onsite Role)
NOTE: Experience with Dell Devices is MUST
Ongoing day-to-day Network support for 200-300 devices.
- Tech refresh project.
- Support the refresh and replacement of legacy Cisco and F5 network devices with new Dell hardware.
- Installation of:
- Dell Network routing and switching devices:
- F5 load balancers
- Palo Alto firewalls
- Network management tools, including NetScout, wireshark, TCPdump.
- Assist platform, storage and application teams with the cutovers of equipment from old to new network.
- Troubleshoot any issues that occur as the result of migration activities.
- Data center migration project:
- Installation of:
- DMZ for select applications
- Data circuit for inter-data center data replication
- Global Traffic Manager option on F5 load balancers
- Assist platform, storage and application teams with the movement of equipment from old to new data center location.
- Troubleshoot any issues that occur as the result of migration activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expert support to day-to-day network administration staff supporting the environment containing 200-300 network devices for the account
- Troubleshoot network environment and make recommendations for system findings and enhancements
- Support related project and change activity including: network change activity, firewall updates, load balancer configuration changes, hardware failure mitigation and repair, OS, firmware and configurations upgrades/updates and build out of network equipment
- Familiar with data center standards for cabling, design including cooling and power distribution.
- Proficient with Visio network diagraming.
- Provide advanced technical support for complex network incidents requiring network expertise to identify and resolve
- Provide onsite support for Network support, install and configuration activities in the DXC Suwanee data center
- Participate in regular, weekly oncall rotation
- Perform network, planning, designing, architecting and implementing duties
- Proactively identify and recommend patches and updates to network hardware
- Troubleshoot issues where network is the suspect cause or contributor using network tools (NetScout, wireshark, TCPdump, and device troubleshooting commands / GUI).
- Establish networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
- Maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization.
- Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
- Participate and represent team in relevant meetings
- Adhere to implemented ITIL related and operational processes
- Provide afterhours support and troubleshooting as required
- Incident Management: Resolve single- and cross technology incidents independently. Work with team members to resolve unusually complex or cross technology incidents.
- Escalation Management: identify, manage, and lead escalations through L3. Work with others to help manage escalations through L5.
- Problem Management: Proactively and reactively look for solutions to prevent problems from occurring in team/technology area.
- Change Management/Implementation: Independently review, implement, and verify changes/solutions of high complexity and risk to meet customer needs. May lead or participate in a Change Advisory Board.
- Configuration Management: Ensure Configuration Management Database (CMDB) entries are complete and accurate.
- Solution Design: Apply solutions to meet highly complex customer needs.
- Quality: May provide feedback/influence change in internal and/or vendor-provided products/service offerings.
- Project Management: Participate, propose, and/or lead customer and internal projects across technology customers and/or internal businesses/end users areas, including transformation.
- Customer Relationship Management: Influence with customers and/or internal businesses/end users regarding operational details, solutions, and proposals. Becoming a trusted advisor to the customer.
- Teamwork: Work as part of a team, which may be virtual, global, and/or multi-functional.
Mandatory Skills Description:
- Education and Experience Required:
- 5-8 years of professional experience and a Bachelor of Arts/Science or equivalent degree in computer science or related area of study; without a degree, three additional years of relevant professional experience (8+ years in total).
- Applicants need to have strong knowledge of network management, architecture, and management of network switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Typical skills include:
- 5-8 years of Network Administration experience
- Cisco certifications: CCNP, CCIE a plus
- Extensive background in all aspects of networking technology and must possess excellent communication skills
- Extensive experience working with routers, switches, cabling, and other essential network hardware
- Experience in performing the planning, design, and upgrading of network installations
- Applicants should have experience in the following technologies: Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, F5 load balancers, and network tools including some if not all: Netscout, HP Network Automation, NNMi, HP Operations Manager
- Possess a positive attitude toward skills development, be self-motivated, able to participate in on-call rotation and occasionally work beyond scheduled hours, and must be able to work well in a team
- Ability to perform/drive resolution of problems on combinations and interactions of products. Ability to apply technical experience and analytical skills to resolve problems.
- Able to communicate and present complex issues with assurance and confidence. Demonstrates the use of consulting skills including questioning, listening, ideas development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
- Ability to conduct/lead oral status/technical communications with clients.
- Ability to translate technical details into concise and easy-to-understand written form. Ability to translate verbal requirements from client meetings into requirements documents, statements of work, and proposals.
- Able to discuss (within own area of expertise) requirements with a customer, and to challenge and clarify when appropriate. From the requirements, able to develop a high-level design or plan, and then estimate the amount of effort required to deliver. Able to advise the engagement owner about the risks associated with this work package.
- Ability to work with a team to provide written responses to technical proposals and /or reports/documentation for delivery.
- Ability to support technical projects related to network equipment moves and upgrades, firmware updates, and architectural design changes.
- Participate in the team on-call rotation.
- Work well in a technical team environment.
