Objective
The purpose of this TOR is to define the roles, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the Oracle Cloud Exadata Administrator. This position is critical for managing Oracle Exadata environments within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), leveraging OCI Command Line tools, DevOps practices, and ensuring all systems are up-to-date with the latest patches.
Roles And Responsibilities
Database Management:
Install, configure, and maintain Oracle Exadata Database.
Ensure high availability and optimal performance of Oracle databases.
Manage database security, including user access and encryption.
Cloud Operations:
Utilize OCI to manage cloud resources effectively.
Automate routine database administrative tasks using OCI Command Line Interface (CLI) and scripts.
Monitor and optimize the performance of cloud resources, ensuring cost efficiency.
OCI Exadata Patching Activities:
Schedule and implement regular OCI Exadata patching in line with Oracle’s release schedule to ensure security and performance enhancements are applied.
Test patches in a non-production environment to verify functionality before widespread deployment.
Coordinate with IT and network teams to ensure minimal downtime and compliance with SLAs during patching windows.
Document patching activities, including pre-patching checks, impact analysis, patch application, and post-patching tests.
DevOps Integration:
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database code and schema changes to improve reliability and speed of deployments.
Work closely with development teams to ensure database operations integrate seamlessly with overall DevOps workflows.
Utilize modern containerization and orchestration technologies to enhance scalability and manageability.
Backup and Recovery on OCI:
Implement and manage comprehensive backup procedures for all database systems.
Regularly test recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
Optimize backup operations using OCI features and tools to ensure data redundancy and quick accessibility.
Disaster Recovery and Oracle Data Guard:
Develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan that includes Oracle Data Guard for real-time data protection and failover capabilities.
Configure and manage Data Guard to ensure high availability and disaster recovery across different geographical locations.
Conduct regular DR drills to ensure the effectiveness of the disaster recovery procedures and adjust as necessary.
Project Management:
Lead planning and execution of database upgrade and migration projects.
Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, providing updates and resolving issues promptly.
Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for all managed systems and procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
Extensive experience as an Oracle Exadata Administrator and OCI certification
Strong proficiency with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and OCI Command Line Interface.
Demonstrated experience with patch management processes and best practices for Oracle Exadata.
Familiarity with DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git, Azure DevOps) and methodologies.
