Role Overview:

The successful candidate will join the Customer Data Delivery team at Duke Energy, playing a critical role in the migration from on-premise databases to cloud architecture. This role is primarily focused on business analysis with a significant emphasis on data skills, particularly SQL and AWS. The candidate will need to manage massive databases, troubleshoot data issues, and effectively communicate technical requirements with stakeholders. SQL proficiency is essential, and the candidate will need to pass a technical assessment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Strategy & Collaboration:
    • Work across departments to develop and implement data strategies that enhance business processes.
    • Collaborate with business leaders to understand customer data initiatives and align them with IT delivery teams.
    • Facilitate alignment between business stakeholders and development teams to ensure successful project outcomes.
    • Participate in calls to troubleshoot data issues and discuss technical requirements with stakeholders.
  • Data Exploration & Migration:
    • Explore customer databases (both on-premise and cloud-based) to derive insights that inform data engineering tasks.
    • Manage and analyze massive databases, requiring prior experience as this is not a learning environment.
    • Identify anomalies in new datasets that could impact data engineering methods.
    • Capture source and target dataset metadata for migration projects.
    • Perform data validations to ensure successful data migration.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Author functional report designs, test scenarios, and test cases for analytics and reporting.
    • Build and manage technical documents such as ETL mapping and data dictionaries.
    • Document and communicate data quality test results and overall findings to team members and leadership regularly.
    • Assist in creating training documentation and job aids.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • SQL Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced SQL skills with experience in developing queries on large datasets. Heavy SQL experience is required as this role involves working with massive databases.
  • AWS Experience: While AWS experience can be picked up on the job, any pre-existing knowledge will be a significant advantage.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, essential for hosting meetings, troubleshooting data issues, and translating technical requirements for business leadership.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong exploratory analysis abilities, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask with minimal oversight.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated success in project management or process improvement.
  • Testing Experience: Experience in product and usability testing, writing test cases/scripts, and maintaining a traceability matrix.
  • Data Visualization: Experience in developing, optimizing, and maintaining data visualizations using tools like Power BI or Tableau.

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cloud Data Warehouses: Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or Google BigQuery.
  • Stream Processing: Experience with stream processing platforms like Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or AWS Kinesis.
  • Programming Languages: Familiarity with object-oriented programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or CSS.
  • Statistical Programming: Experience with statistical programming languages such as SAS, R, or sci-py.
