Job Description:
The Business Analyst (BA) position at the Client works on one or more projects at the same time that support the agency's mission. This position performs advanced, senior-level business analysis work. The Senior Business Analyst must gain deep insights into customer issues and potential risks based on subject matter expertise; devise approaches to solving complex problems; exhibit intellectual leadership in the problem-solving effort; and manage conflicting stakeholder expectations.

The business analyst serves as the conduit between the program/customer community and the software development team through which requirements flow. This position may support more than one project or be assigned to special projects at any time. This BA will be involved at some level throughout the entire software development life cycle.

The Senior Business Analyst works on applications that serve teachers and school districts, gather student and school data, manage funding, and provide compliance oversight (such as the Texas Student Data System, Foundation School Funding, and Educator Certification) for all Texas public schools. These applications help Client improve outcomes for all of Texas’ 5 million plus students. The analyst serves as the conduit between the program/customer community and the software development team. The analyst also supports projects through the software development life cycle, to support the agency initiatives by:

  • Reviewing, assessing, and developing business processes
  • Assisting with user acceptance testing
  • Implementing post-implementation support of systems
  • Providing research and special project support to users.

Required Skills:

  • Deriving requirements from interviews with customers and creating system requirements documents.
  • System Analysis and Design (including mockups and/or wireframes)
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Business Process Re-engineering
  • Development of user stories and use cases

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong communication, organization, and facilitation skills
  • Business Process Development Experience with Azure DevOps or Modern Requirements Experience with Atlassian Jira
  • Prior experience or familiarity with TEA applications and programs
  • Prior employment at a Texas public school district
