Job Description
The cloud architect is responsible for the cloud computing initiatives within an organization and for directing the architectural aspects of a cloud brokering team across all aspects of IT and the business. Responsible for the planning and engineering of an organization's cloud computing infrastructure and applications. Implements and designs hardware and software. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of cloud technology, including Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

The Department of Information Resources (DIR) requires the services of One Cloud Solution Architect hereafter referred to as Worker, who meets the general qualification of Cloud Solutions Architect and the specifications outlined in this document for Health & Human Services Commission - Social Services Applications team. The Cloud Solution Architect will provide strategic guidance in the development process, make technical decisions regarding solutions and explain how they will impact the organization.
As part of HHSC IT Applications – Social Services Applications initiatives, the Cloud Solution Architect 2 will be responsible for:
- Architect, develop and re-engineer applications that fully leverage the Cloud capabilities (preferably AWS)
- Define and develop blueprints and roadmaps for building efficient and high-performance solutions in the cloud (preferably AWS)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient software solutions.
- Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging microservices architecture, containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Drive the adoption of cloud-native best practices for scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
- Implement and advocate for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
- Plan and engineer cloud computing infrastructure and applications.
- Integrate applications with various third parties such as Federal agencies, State agencies and private firms (For example, CMS Federal Hub, SSA, MMIS, EBT, IRS, DHS, BCBS etc.)
- Provide cloud architecture guidance for Security, Identity/Access Management and Monitoring. Ensure compliance with HHS enterprise security configuration standards.
- Provide cloud architecture guidance for applications across all layers – User Interface, Middleware integrations and data bases.
- Provide cloud architecture guidance for batch processing applications.
- Provide AWS operational guidance both internal to the team, and for external operations teams
- Define standard concepts, practices, and procedures for cloud technology, including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
- Lead and ensure HHSC best practices and methodologies are applied to the design, deployment, and operations in the cloud.
- Participate in application modernization.
- Investigate and provide feedback on new AWS services and solutions.
- Provide technical oversight, review, and quality control throughout the life cycle of the implementation.

Education
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, engineering, or management information systems is preferred.
