This is a unique opportunity to work directly with the Founding Partner of Athena Infonomics to grow a business unit on “Insights As A Serviceâ€. We are looking for a creative and entrepreneurial data analytics lead, passionate about working in the social development space. The role involves leading the development of a suite of data products using AI and machine learning algorithms, to enable governments, mission-oriented organizations and Corporate ESG teams to extract insights from satellite and remote sensing data, and other sources to advance their development goals.
As the Data Analytics Lead, you will be responsible for working alongside the partner to develop pitches and oversee the entire data analytics process, from data acquisition and transformation to analysis and visualization. You will start with a 3-member team consisting of 2 junior data scientists and one data visualization consultant reporting into you.
You will also have the opportunity to work closely with leadership members from different business units and cross-functional teams across Asia, Africa the US and the UK to develop creative data solutions.
• Manage and oversee the growth of the IAAS portfolio
• Co-lead the product ideation and business development process with the Founding Partner;
• Lead and manage the end-to-end data analytics process, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality insights to clients;
• Design and oversee implementation of data acquisition strategies to collect relevant data from multiple spatial and other sources, ensuring data quality and integrity; This will involve acquiring, managing, and analyzing geospatial data.
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to efficiently transform and cleanse large volumes of data- Experience working with GIS data is critical;
• Support spatial database administration and development, including but not limited to GIS servers, ArcSDE, and GIS web services.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of data standards to support consistent data collection and use.
• Apply advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyze complex datasets and identify key trends, patterns, and correlations;
• Build predictive models and develop forecasting methodologies to support decision-making and optimize business outcomes;
• Oversee the development of compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to effectively communicate insights to clients;
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in GIS and data analytics tools, techniques, and best practices, and actively contribute to improving our analytics capabilities;
• Mentor the current associates and oversee hiring and growth of the ‘Insights As A Service’ team.
• Master's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, GIS, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience of at least 5 years in a similar role, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
• Strong expertise in data analytics, including data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL for data analysis and modeling.
• Proficiency in geospatial software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, and ERDAS Imagine for spatial data analysis.
• Proficiency in managing geodatabases and understanding of spatial data structures and algorithms.
• Knowledge of spatial data and ability to handle satellite imagery, remote sensing, and GIS data integration.
• Familiarity with geospatial machine learning and AI applications such as image recognition and segmentation, spatial pattern detection, and predictive modeling.
• Experience in managing, analyzing, and visualizing large spatial datasets, including point cloud, raster, and vector data.
• Knowledge of spatial statistics & analytics, and the application of these techniques in different use cases.
• Familiarity with spatial data formats (e.g., GeoJSON, KML, Shapefile) and web mapping APIs and libraries (e.g., Leaflet, Mapbox, Google Maps API).
• Familiarity with remote sensing principles and technologies and their applications in social and environmental contexts.
• Understanding of privacy and ethical considerations in geospatial data collection and use.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to create impactful visualizations and reports.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Leadership experience, with the ability to lead a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Passion for data-driven decision-making and a drive to stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in the data analytics field.
• Ability to structure complex problems.
• Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail and entrepreneurial attitude to handle challenging tasks
