Work you'll do
 

  • Seeking a Data Standards specialist to support a Federal Health client.
  • The work will focus on the discovery and advancement of open-source solutions in the laboratory domain.
  • The Data Standards specialist will be responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and documentation of a knowledge architecture that is intended to integrate reference terminology from distributors (e.g., SNOMED CT , LOINC , RxNorm) in a common data model.
  • There will be engagement with standards-development organizations (e.g., Health Level Seven International) and industry SMEs to promote model iteration and publication.
  • The Data Standards specialist will work as part of a cross-functional Scrum Agile team that works on medical terminology mapping. The resource will be a SME team lead and specialist to a cross-disciplinary team of medical informaticists and data engineers to help encode and structure data in formats parse-able by java engineering teams.
  • Day to day activities will include designing data structures, analyzing clinical terminologies and their internal data relationships, and collaborating on automation for ingestion and representation of data from disparate sources.
  • The ideal candidate will be both a leader and expert, with knowledge and involvement in the health IT standards community.

Qualifications

Required:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with health data standards and terminology tools (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm, UMLS, VSAC) in Health IT systems
  • Experience with standards/research written formats - briefing abstracts, research proposals, etc.
  • Travel up to 25%
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future


Desired
 

  • Data modeling - both to describe functional relationships and serve as reference models for development efforts
  • Relational (SQL) database design as well as graph database design
  • Serialization formats such as XML/JSON
  • Experience with extract, transform, load (ETL) data integration processes
  • Agile experience
  • HL7 experience and or understanding
  • Familiarity with interoperability technologies and solutions
  • Data analytics skills
  • PMO experience
  • Understanding of Health IT systems development
