The Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT), partnering with the Minnesota Department of Commerce (Commerce), is seeking one (1) full-time database administration resource to assist with critical Commerce projects and maintain Commerce database environments and instances.

Commerce oversees more than 40 industries and depends heavily on software solutions to meet its responsibilities. Having a secure, available data warehouse that has the correct datasets for reports and analytics is a critical aspect of these software solutions.

The resource under this engagement will create and maintain a data warehouse for Commerce’s software solutions and analytical needs. The resource will work with Commerce to identify and migrate datasets into the warehouse using ETL tools. The resource will also provide support for other Commerce modernization or maintenance projects involving databases.

The warehouse will be set up using PostGRES in AWS. Database sources are a mix of SQL Server, Oracle, PostGRES, Access, and Excel spreadsheets.

The ideal resource will be a high-level database administrator that is experienced in AWS data warehouse technology, ETL tools, PostGRES, and data analytics. The resource should be able to work with minimal oversight and architect database solutions that the resource can mentor State staff on and subsequently implement.

•     Create and maintain a PostGRES data warehouse on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

•     Migrate data to the data warehouse

•     Work with business to identify and create datasets for data analytics

•     Create, automate, and maintain ETL (Extraction, Translate, Load) for data migrations and submissions

•     Maintain PostGRES and SQL Server instances, schemas, and tables located on AWS

•     Create basic data models and documentation

•     Implement best practices for PostGRES and SQL Server

•     Respond to and carry out database work requests

•     Perform performance tuning and optimization as applicable

•     Implement database security as applicable

•     Provide knowledge transfer to State staff

•     Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

•     Five (5) years’ combined experience in PostGRES and SQL Server database management, which includes at least one (1) year of experience in each of these databases

•     Three (3) years’ experience in database migration using ETL tool(s)

•     Three (3) years’ experience with data warehousing, including at least six (6) months of experience with AWS data warehouse

 

Desired Qualifications

•     Experience with creating and supporting data repositories for data analytics

•     Experience with database architecture

•     Experience with Oracle database management

•     Experience with data modeling

•     Experience with advanced analytical design tools

•     Experience with disaster and recovery planning

•     Experience as a senior database administrator

•     Experience with performance analysis tool(s)

•     Experience with implementing database security
