Job Description
Texas Department of Family and Protective Services requires the services of 3 Database Architect 3, hereafter referred to as Candidate(s), who meets the general qualifications of Database Architect 3, Data/Database Administration and the specifications outlined in this document for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
All work products resulting from the project shall be considered "works made for hire" and are the property of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and may include pre-selection requirements that potential Vendors (and their Candidates) submit to and satisfy criminal background checks as authorized by Texas law. Texas Department of Family and Protective Services will pay no fees for interviews or discussions, which occur during the process of selecting a Candidate(s).
Work involves the following:
· Performs advanced (senior-level) data analysis and architecture work. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may be considered technical experts in the field and may:
o Select data management tools and develop standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for those tools.
o Identify appropriate data sourcing and extraction processes, and identify and nominate sources as systems of record for data usage in various applications.
o Perform root cause analyses related to information issues and non-conformance to published data standards based on review of technical metadata of various source systems
o Determines database requirements by analyzing business operations, applications, and programming; reviewing business objectives; and evaluating current systems.
· Obtains data model requirements, develops and implements data models for new projects, and maintains existing data models and data architectures.
· Develops data structures for data warehouses and data mart projects and initiatives; and supports data analytics and business intelligence systems.
· Implements corresponding database changes to support new and modified applications, and ensures that new designs conform to data standards and guidelines; are consistent, normalized, and perform as required; and are secure from unauthorized access or update.
· Provides guidelines on creating data models and various standards relating to governed data.
· Reviews changes to technical and business metadata, realizing their impacts on enterprise applications, and ensures that the impacts are communicated to appropriate parties.
· Establishes measures to chart progress related to the completeness and quality of metadata for enterprise information; to support reduction of data redundancy and fragmentation and elimination of unnecessary movement of data; and to improve data quality.
· Establishes database and system requirements by analyzing and evaluating business operations, applications, and programming.
· Coordinates and gathers data model requirements, and assists with the analysis, design, modification, and maintenance of database structures, models and architectures.
· Supports data analytics and business intelligence systems and coordinates the implementation of database changes to support new and modified applications, ensuring that new designs conform to standards and guidelines.
· Recommends and develops standards, procedures, and guidelines on creating and maintaining data models and governed data, ensuring completeness and quality.
· Reviews changes to logical and physical data modeling, metadata, relational database models, and prepares physical data models from logical data models.
· Supports improved data quality by charting the reduction of data redundancy, fragmentation and elimination of unnecessary movement of data.
· Assists in selecting data management tools and developing the standards, usage guidelines, and procedures for using those tools to ensure the integrity of the database environment.
· Assists in performing root cause analyses related to information issues and non-conformance to published data standards based on review of technical metadata of various source systems.
· Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
