Database Specialist

Job Description:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Oracle to PostgreSQL Database Migration Specialist to lead a critical project involving the migration of databases from Oracle to PostgreSQL. As a Migration Specialist, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and executing the migration process while ensuring minimal disruption to business operations and maintaining data integrity. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including database administrators, developers, and system architects to ensure a seamless and successful migration

Responsibilities:

Migration Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive migration strategies and plans for migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL, considering factors such as data volume, complexity, and business requirements

Database Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of existing Oracle databases to identify dependencies, performance bottlenecks, and potential compatibility issues with PostgreSQL

Schema Conversion: Analyze and convert Oracle database schemas to PostgreSQL-compatible formats, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance

Data Migration: Design and execute data migration processes to transfer data from Oracle to PostgreSQL while minimizing downtime and ensuring data consistency

Query Optimization: Optimize SQL queries and database configurations to maximize performance and scalability on the PostgreSQL platform

Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate the accuracy, completeness, and performance of migrated databases

Documentation: Create detailed documentation of migration processes, procedures, and best practices for future reference

Training and Support: Provide training and support to internal teams on PostgreSQL database management, optimization, and troubleshooting

Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in database migration and actively contribute to process improvements

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred

Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in database administration and migration projects, with a focus on Oracle to PostgreSQL migrations

Deep understanding of relational database concepts, SQL, and database design principles

Proficiency in both Oracle and PostgreSQL database administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security management

Experience with database migration tools such as AWS Database Migration Service, AWS Schema Conversion Tool, or similar

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

Certification in Oracle and PostgreSQL administration is a plus

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is desirable
