Wildlife Health Database Specialist (Database Designer/Analyst)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is seeking to hire a Database Designer/Analyst to assist the Wildlife Health Program with database development and management. This is a full-time position.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:
- Organizing historical data.
- Developing/maintaining a database.
- Coordinating with existing IT staff to migrate database to an internal KDFWR server.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- 1-3 years of experience of relational database creation and support.
- Experience with relational database development, data storage, and data standards.
- An understanding of research problems from the perspective of a biologist or resource manager.
- Excel, Access, and SQL, developing and constructing relational databases as well as knowledge of ESRI products.
- Use personal computers running current Microsoft operating systems.
- Translate research needs into query capable, relational databases that are capable of interacting with low-code solutions like ESRI Survey 123 or MS Power Apps.
- Produce databases in a manner that will allow them to be easily implemented by other staff and produce high-quality, rigorously quality controlled data for analysis.
- Work independently; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
- Communicate effectively both verbally, graphically and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with research staff and others.
- Demonstrated experience with querying or analyzing data to answer questions and solve problems and familiarity with different databases.
- Exhibit proficiency in data analysis and statistical software including SigmaPlot (Systat), R, Python, SAS, Matlab, SQL, and other relevant programming environments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience using REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) for building and managing online surveys and databases is preferred.
