General Information
Works with customers to develop and document complex electronic and electrical system requirements. Analyzes and translates requirements into system, hardware and software designs and interface specifications. Tests and validates to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. Monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements. Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product lifecycle. Research specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs.

Provides technical, design and informational support for complex production, product support or in-service issues. Effectively troubleshoots difficult, intermittent, chronic, or complex system problems consistent with operational protocols. Assembles the resources necessary to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. Provides technical, design and informational support for complex production, product support or in-service issues. Conducts studies and assessments in support of technology development. Identifies and documents emerging industry standards in line with company goals. Participates in industry technical committees. Identifies areas for potential industry influence. Participates in technology roadmapping exercises, identifies, and promotes potential technology development areas.

Develops, decomposes, manages, controls, documents and tracks a wide range of complex electronic/electrical system/subsystem requirements using approved processes and tools to ensure that the desired product can be reliably produced. Assesses the impact of requirements on design. Applies a working knowledge of interactions between other disciplines. Provides guidance to less experienced engineers and leads small requirements development teams. Recognizes and documents risk.

Using standard tools and processes, analyzes applicable operational and functional requirements and develops system designs by allocating system requirements to the electronic/electrical system/subsystems. Translates requirements into hardware, software and interface specifications. Designs complex electronic/electrical systems/subsystems in terms of quality, performance, reliability, maintainability, supportability, testability, producibility, cost, schedule, compliance and risk by postulating alternative system approaches, architectures and system-level attributes. Ensures successful integration between interfacing systems/subsystems and components. Documents design implementation.

Oversees the supplier technical team in the development of the product or system. Creates or coordinates supplier procurement specifications. Participates in the source selection process. Develops supplier plans and schedules. Conducts design reviews or audits. Participates in supplier product hardware and software development. May plan and direct supplier qualification testing program. Reviews and dispositions contractual data.

Validates that requirements are complete by performing traceability analysis. Writes test plans, conducts testing, performs analysis, documents and reports results to validate and verify the design. Provides engineering design disposition on discrepancies by investigating problems. Recommends corrective action. Validates system design via product modeling and/or demonstration. Creates a verification cross-reference. Assists in evaluating test programs and ensures that tests are integrated. Participates in periodic design reviews. Produces and provides documentation to achieve certification or compliance as required.

Preferred skills:
- Authoring of system functional tests, working knowledge of wire diagrams and schematics, prior customer introduction experience.
- proficiency with software tools and application, understanding of aircraft certification.

Education / Experience:               
Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
