The Utah Department of Workforce Services is looking to hire a User Experience Designer or Architect with experience in Product Development Strategy for the Core Web Team. Our team’s core responsibility is to develop, support, modernize and maintain internal and public facing web applications that serve the needs of the citizens of the State of Utah.


The selected candidate will be responsible for bridging the gap between the vision that Business has for their products and the technical details of what engineering will build. The right candidate will be able to conduct stakeholder interviews, create interactive mockups, and lead discussions with Business that help them feel empowered to create realistic requirements and trust the development process.


This position is primarily responsible for getting the customer and the development team on the same page. It will help the customer understand what is possible, help them clarify their long term product strategy, and help them visually interact with their ideas before resources are spent building them.


Required Qualifications


● Minimum of 5 years of experience in UX design and product strategy.
● Strong portfolio showcasing UX design work and strategic thinking.
● Proficient in design and prototyping tools such as Figma, or Adobe XD.
● Excellent communication, presentation, and collaborative skills.
● Experience with Agile development methodologies such as SCRUM including experience with the Atlassian tools (Jira/Confluence), sprint planning and retrospectives, and regular team stand-up meetings.
● Experience working on a development team in both new and existing projects.
● Excellent oral and written communication
● Bootstrap 4+ responsive design
● Strong understanding of user-centered design principles
● Experience developing User Stories and User Journeys
● Experiencing building out a Product Roadmap and Strategic Product Plan
● Background in working with cross-functional teams including developers, product managers, and stakeholders.
Preference given to candidates with the following qualifications:
● Experience with HTML/CSS, JavaScript
● Familiarity with Angular 17
● Experience with GitHub
● Experience with Oracle or other relational databases
● Experience with modern web development technologies including but not limited to:
○ Angular user interfaces
○ Relational database design with Oracle/PostgreSQL
● Experience configuring or managing OpenCMS
