DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:
The Employees Retirement System of Texas requests the services of one Enterprise Systems Administrator, hereafter referred to as Worker, who meets the general qualifications of Product Support Analyst Level 3 and the specifications outlined in this document.

General Description:
Performs (journey-level) information systems administration work in the Information Systems Division. Work involves design, installation, administration, and maintenance of enterprise computing systems and applications, including infrastructure, platforms, server and storage subsystems, and operating systems. Work is performed under the general direction of the Enterprise Systems Manager with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Functional responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
• Manage AIX, IBM Power and Linux infrastructure and platform systems including design, installation, administration, security, hardware, storage subsystems and other systems. Ensure AIX systems meet the organization's current and future needs, including scalability and resilience. Monitor and optimize system performance. Suggest and carry out improvements.
• Develop, manage and monitor backup solutions, tools, jobs and scheduling to ensure protection of agency data and disaster recovery preparedness. Implement and maintain automation and orchestration solutions for backups and other purposes.
• Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools to streamline system administration tasks.
• Develop and document best practices, operating procedures and guidelines, providing quality control through the application of standards, meeting or exceeding requirements.
• Provide technical leadership on best practices and troubleshooting complex issues.
• Document, prioritize, recommend, report on and carry out vulnerability mitigation and security enhancement actions and plans.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Performs On-call or scheduled after hours work as required.

WORKER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS (Required)

Minimum (Required): insert specific minimum skills for this Contract Position)
Years Skills/Experience
5 Experience and journey-level proficiency in enterprise technology environments performing systems design, deployment, administration, configuration and support of IBM Power systems, AIX, NIM and PowerVM including HMC and all aspects of the platform and virtualization.
5 Experience and journey-level proficiency in enterprise backup strategies, systems, management, data recovery and disaster recovery, preferably including Dell/EMC Networker, RMAN and automated tape libraries.
5 Experience applying critical thinking, best practices and enterprise-grade solutions, methods and processes for technology deployments and enhancements.

Skills/Experience
Certifications: IBM AIX Administration Power systems and/or IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert - Power Systems with AIX; Dell/EMC Networker certification
Experience managing enterprise storage systems (SAN) and connectivity (fibre-channel).
Experience with security enhancement and mitigation including assessing and applying industry and government cybersecurity standards, hardening, controls and benchmarks such as CIS, OWASP and NIST.
Proficiency with AIX shells, scheduling and scripting tools including PERL, PowerShell, IBM Workload Scheduler.
Experience with Linux in an enterprise environment.
Experience with VMware vSphere and Windows Server Operating Systems.
Experience with encryption services and certificate management systems and practices
Graduation from an accredited 4-year college with a degree in a related field (MIS, Computer Science, Information Security)
