Contract: 6+ Months
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:
The Employees Retirement System of Texas requests the services of one Network Engineer personnel, hereafter referred to as Worker, who meets the general qualifications of a Network Engineer and the specifications outlined in this document for the Employees Retirement System (ERS) of Texas.
General Description:
Performs duties to ensure the effictcient and effeive operation of agency Unified Communications (UC) and data networking systems and to maintain the integrity of agency UC and data networking systems. Work involves highly-complex (senior-level) UC and data networking tasks related to the IT systems lifecycle; this includes analysis, design, implementation, integration, evaluation, testing, documentation, training, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, administration, decommissioning, and review tasks related to existing and potential UC and data network devices, infrastructure, and services. Works under general supervision of the Network Services Team Leader with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
I. Duties and Responsibilities
A. Essential Functions:
· Perform administration and technical support of network infrastructure including data center, backbone, edge, wireless LAN, and wiring closet systems, and technologies.
· Perform administration and technical support of network security devices and technologies including web and email filtering, network access systems, Virtual Private Networks, and firewalls.
· Perform administration and technical support of communications systems including telephony, videoconferencing, and mobile/cellular communication devices, infrastructure, technologies, and services.
· Research, assess, evaluate, and implement new, upgraded, and developing systems, technologies, and standards to enhance agency enterprise IT operations. Provide recommendations and risk assessments of new features, capacity and licensing requirements, high-availability, and integrations.
· Participate in the development and documentation of best practices, operating procedures, guidelines and metrics, and provide quality control through the application of standards and by ensuring that user requirements are met. Analyze existing procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
B. Other Duties and Responsibilities:
· Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
· Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
· Perform on-call or scheduled after-hours work as required.
· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
II. Qualification Requirements
A. Education and Training:
· Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in data processing, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field; or attainment of a diploma from a two-year technical school with specialization in computer technology. Each year of experience may substitute for the education on a 30 semester hours per year basis.
· Technical training or experience as necessary to perform the duties described.
B. Experience and Training:
· At least four years of experience in an enterprise technology environment in a progressively more difficult role performing network administration and support.
III. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of, and experience with, a variety of technologies including:
o Two years of telecommunications experience, including experience with UC, fax, and voicemail systems.
o Two years of experience with Cisco Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connection.
o Experience supporting Cisco networking equipment.
· Ability to:
o Apply critical thinking to all aspects of the job.
o Learn and understand new technologies quickly.
o Provide exceptional customer service.
o Communicate respectfully and maintain positive, effective working relationships with all coworkers, business partners, and vendors.
o Develop system-level documentation and training materials.
o Explain technical information to people with varied levels of technical understanding.

IV. Special Requirements and Work Environment
· Work is performed in an office environment and requires appropriate business attire.
· May require access to privileged, confidential, or sensitive data.
· Must be able to lift and carry loads weighing up to 35 pounds.
· Occasionally works in narrow spaces and maintenance areas such as equipment closets or plenum areas.
· Occasional moving and climbing of ladders.
· Occasional crouching or crawling under furniture, work surfaces, or equipment.
· Occasional reaching over, under, around, or between furniture, cubicle parts, or equipment.
