Summary:
The main function of a hardware engineer is to research, design, develop, test computer or computer-related equipment for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use. A typical hardware engineer is responsible for the manufacture and installation of computer or computer-related equipment and components.
Typical Day in the Role
• Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is work in the research and development pathfinding division. Doing Advanced Research for Azure hardware servers so our servers.
• Key projects: This particular team is focused on the mechanical and thermal aspects of the servers themselves. one of their main roles and responsibilities will be to set up servers. Turn them on and test them with different advanced technologies in them. A lot of thermal testing. Troubleshooting is a big one. And then for the thermals side of things, they will be running thermal test scripts for developing thermal test scripts. Monitoring the results and taking a look at it. Also supporting other labs and testing; setting up the server, getting it connected to the Internet and doing and being on site. If something goes wrong or if it doesn't turn on to troubleshoot.
• Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm: The role needs Two things is somebody who's good. Hands-on - can put things together mechanically, see how things fit together and has that intuition. The second part is knowing how to turn on a computer, a server and connecting them to the Internet and configuring the server. They will also be managing inventory, generating lab maps, managing lab equipment. There is also an expectation to be interested in the research side of hardware development
Job Responsibilities:
• Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan layout, including type of computers and peripheral equipment modifications.
• Assemble and modify existing pieces of equipment to meet special needs.
• Build, test, and modify product prototypes using working models or theoretical models constructed with computer simulation.
• Evaluate factors such as reporting formats required, cost constraints, and need for security restrictions to determine hardware configuration.
• Monitor functioning of equipment and make necessary modifications to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications.
• Confer with engineering staff and consult specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
• Provide training and support to system designers and users.

Candidate Requirements
• Years of Experience Required: 5-7 overall years of experience in the field.
• Degrees or certifications required: Bach degree in engineering is preferred. MSFT experience is Strongly preferred.
• Disqualifiers: Candidates not willing to work on both the hardware component and the research component will not be eligible for the role.
• Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain experience in the sever hardware space and research experience.
• Performance Indicators: Performance will be assessed based on task completion – adherence to the timeline, and progress in research projects
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• 5-7 years experience required.
