A Technical Architect will serve as the manager of complex technology implementations, with an eye toward constant reengineering and refactoring to ensure the simplest and most elegant system possible to accomplish the desired need; understand how to maximize leverage of the open source community to deploy systems on Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers; be comfortable sharing knowledge across a multi-disciplinary team and working within various methodologies; and be a full partner in the determination of vision, objectives, and success criteria. The Technical Architect will architect the overall system by using prototyping and proof of concepts, which may include: modern programming languages (e.g., Ruby, Python, Node.js) and web frameworks (e.g., Django, Rails), modern front-end web programming techniques (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, RESTful APIs) and frameworks (e.g., Twitter Bootstrap, jQuery), relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), and "NoSQL” databases (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB), automated configuration management (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt), continuous integration/deployment, and continuous monitoring solutions; use version control systems (e.g., Git and GitHub); ensure strategic alignment of technical design and architecture to meet business growth and direction, and stay on top of emerging technologies; decompose business and system architecture to support clean-interface multi-team development; develop product roadmaps, backlogs, and measurable success criteria, and write user stories (i.e., can establish a path to delivery for breaking down stories) and clearly communicate and work with stakeholders at every level.
Skills Required:
The Technical Architect will possess knowledge and experience in analyses and development of conceptual designs and detail designs; developing JBOSS Messaging and connectivity with Spring-JMS connectivity; designing DB schema as per the requirements and in sync with the old system; implementing the daily and weekly jobs that interact with external interfaces; coordinating with business stakeholders to understand their requirements; communicate with cross-divisional personnel at both team and executive levels to understand performance measurement methodologies; and direct team members in compiling business requirements and executing project milestones.
Skills Preferred:
Ability to administer IBM DB2 LUW database systems; skilled to perform IBM DB2 LUW tuning including SQL tuning; ability to perform IBM DB2 database backup, restore, and disaster recovery design and deployments; able to automate routine daily IBM DB2 database system management tasks such as database deployments and refreshes.
Possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external management teams, developers, network and infrastructure teams. Possess skills to install/upgrade IBM DB2 LUW databases from lower version to latest supported version such as 11.1.x and above. Possess skills to install, maintain, support IBM DB2 LUW server software and related features including HADR with auto failover. Possess skills to install, maintain, support IBM DB2 LUW Client on Linux and Windows platforms.
Possess skills to install, maintain, support IBM DB2 LUW monitoring software such as IBM DB2 Data Management Console and recommend improvements for operational efficiency, following best practices.
Ability to create project plans for major tasks assigned. Ability to provide technical support and maintenance of the IBM DB2 LUW database systems to ensure their integrity, availability, and performance.
Ability to document and refine database upgrade procedures following best practices and store on the section's MS SharePoint site. Possess skills to collaborate effectively with customer application groups and technical support groups to resolve performance and/or technical issues.
Possess skills to perform capacity planning, space management, and data maintenance tasks for IBM DB2 LUW database systems including management of data and log files. Possess skills to perform database backup/recovery of IBM DB2 LUW databases utilizing enterprise class backup software such as CommVault. Possess skills to prepare change management documents using an enterprise class change management tool such as Cherwell.
Possess skills to manage and maintain security to IBM DB2 LUW systems via authentication and authorization of access users following best practices. Possess skills to support ADABAS/Natural database systems following the section's established processes and procedures.
Possess skills to provide 24x7x365 database systems support of IBM DB2 LUW and ADABAS/Natural database systems for troubleshooting and problem resolution, including after-hours and weekends, as needed to maintain maximum system uptime and minimize service disruptions. Jenkins, Ansible, MS PowerShell for workflow automation; MS Azure SQL and related Azure technologies; MS SQL Server Always on clustering services on SQL Server 2016 and above.
Experience Required:
This classification must have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in systems development, analysis, programming or testing.
Experience Preferred:
10+ years' experience in the following: IBM DB2 LUW database systems administration, including installing and upgrading to new versions and applying maintenance processes; install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot HADR auto failover. Developing automation scripts using WMI, PowerShell, Perl, Python, Jenkins, Ansible, or Unix/Linux shell scripts etc.
Using a DevOps GIT source code management tool. Five+ years' experience of the following: Working with IBM DB2 LUW database systems in a RedHat Linux platform environment, installing new software releases, applying maintenance patches and fixes, and performing regular database administration support services including monitoring and troubleshooting. Working with IBM Data Management Console, installing and configuring new releases, and setting up monitoring profiles.
Supporting, monitoring, and troubleshooting ADABAS/Natural database systems. Utilizing DBeaver to monitor DB2 resources and usage. Supporting Linux RedHat database systems running in a VMware virtualized platform. Managing systems in any Cloud platform such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. SQL Server installations, configurations, management and monitoring, and system administration tasks at the level of a SQL Server Database System Administrator. Managing large MS SQL Server farms (300+ servers).
Developing scripts to automate routine manual database server functions using tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, or similar tools. Migrating and upgrading SQL Server to the latest supported version; experience migrating SQL Servers on premise to MS Azure. Building and managing Azure SQL Managed Instance services. Building, configuring, and managing MS SQL Server Always On cluster services.
Working with Commvault Backup client as a tool to perform SQL Server database Backup and Restore including the experience managing SQL Server backup and restore in native SQL Server Management Studio. Microsoft SQL Server experience on SQL Server 2016 and above.
Education Required:
This classification requires the possession of a bachelor's degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
