Job Description
Title of Position: Mainframe IMS & DB2 Application DBA for z/OS
The Database Administrator will provide technical support, centralized control, implementation, and monitoring of databases on DB2 Application DBA for z/OS.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Design, maintenance, and technical support of required application database system(s).
· Problem resolution, database configuration, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
· Perform day to day database operations.
· Perform feasibility studies and cost estimates in response to user requests.
· Administer the technical design, testing, and implementation of all databases.
· Ensure test procedures are defined, documented, and implemented for new databases.
· Ensure backup procedures are defined, documented, and implemented for full database recoveries.
· Perform problem determination and trouble-shooting of technical problems with the databases.
· Act as a liaison between vendor and user and achieves a timely resolution to related problems.
· Provide technical assistance to the user community and applications support staff.
· Provide on-call (off-hour and weekend) support for the application databases.
· Position requires the individual to carry a pager and be available at all times.
· Prepare and present written reports and oral presentations, following research and evaluation.
· Perform related duties as needed or assigned.
Years of Experience
· 10+ Years of experience in DB2 DBA & IMS DBA on z/OS
Technical requirements
· Experience with Data Sharing, SEIBEL, DB2 Connect, DB2 programming
· Experience working in the z/OS operating system and related utilities
· Experience in managing multiple databases
· Experience working in the z/OS operating system and related utilities
· Experience in managing Full function and Fast path databases including HALDBs.
· Experience in Recon maintenance.
· Experience in supporting IMS upgrades.
· Demonstrate knowledge of Data Modelling and Data Normalization techniques.
· Working knowledge in Sysgen.
· Knowledge of IBM, BMC and CA utilities
· Working knowledge of IMS Internals, DB2 Internals, fundaments, installations and operations
· Working knowledge of IMS&DB2 data sharing/Parallel Sysplex
· Knowledge of performance tuning and capacity planning
· Knowledge of security interface with DB2
· Experience with installing and using DB2 ISV Products, JCL skills and IMS ISV Products and JCL skills.
· REXX, HTML and/or java coding ability, CICS/DB2 and MQ/DB2
· Knowledge of interfacing with and installing OEM vendor tools
· Disaster Recovery Planning and support
· Proficiency in application related performance and tuning, access path analysis including extensive SQL coding tuning
· Proficiency in the use of DB2 & IMS monitoring tools
· Proficiency in Logical and physical database design skills
· Knowledge and understanding of an SDLC development lifecycle
· Working knowledge of application development / debugging tools
