Job Description:

Responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, support and technical consultation for the communication network of the organization, as well as for the development of technical standards and interface applications. Includes expertise in 1or more of the following: voice and data networks or wireless services and network security disciplines to include firewalls, centralized management schemes such as system updates, patch distributions, log analysis and report generation, VPN (Virtual Private Networks) and IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems).

Network Engineer

Scope of Work:

The Network Engineer will work with full-time employees and other contractors to assist in designing, procuring, implementing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT related projects for Trans Bay Cable. Looking for an enthusiastic, highly technical, fast learner, team player that can also independently work to efficiently execute on tasks to meet project deadlines. The Network Engineer’s ability to have an open mind and adapt quickly to various projects will be extremely helpful to this position’s success.

Job responsibilities:

  • Tasks for supporting projects will include but are not limited to
  • Management of IT Infrastructure
  • Ability to read vendor documentation to learn new tools to support installation and configuration of software or hardware
  • Ability to assess the infrastructure and provide recommendations or optimizations
  • Ability to design and engineer complex network infrastructure modifications (layer 2/3, VLANs/VRFs/PRP/HSRP)
  • Ability to configure monitoring of network devices into network monitoring tools
  • Support compliance requirements by obtaining evidence on systems
  • System/network administration
  • Troubleshoot network and hardware using various IT applications/tools
  • Design, maintenance, and documentation of IT infrastructure
  • Fluent in English; Ability to clearly communicate (orally and through composition) and document technical issues, thoughts, and solutions
  • Ability to create clear, technical documentation of designs and processes
  • Collaborate and work with vendors and team members for design/procurement/implementation/troubleshooting/decommissioning
  • Ability to learn and use physical networking tools to troubleshoot, organize, label, and run network cables
  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or other computer/IT concentration)
  • CCNA or equivalent technical experience/training
  • Strong understanding and usage of Microsoft Excel/Visio/Word
  • Highly skilled with managing Cisco switches, Cisco wireless controllers and access points, ASA firewalls, and FMC
  • Ability to travel to Pittsburg or San Francisco daily (remote work on occasion)
  • Strong will to assist and educate team members on tasks and project goals
  • Very strong technical experience and knowledge of IT Infrastructure and Networking

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer engineering
  • Experience in energy industry and with NERC CIP Compliance
  • Experience working in very secure environments and facilities

  • Self-motivated and ability to accomplish tasks with little direction or guidance
