Our client, a private research university (with the first nationally recognized Information Technology Degree in the country,1993) is looking for a Platform Engineer with expertise in Kubernetes and Containerization. The university has a number of college, student and co-op developed applications (some monetized) that need to be modernized. Some are to be re-platformed and others already contained moved in a “lift and shift” to their virtualized Data Center or the Cloud. One pressing application was developed by one of the colleges in the university and it supports indoor climate monitoring for presidential libraries and other notable institutions. This is one of many applications needed to be modernized the university embraces a future looking mission to stay on the leading end of technology. This platform engineer will provide containerization best practices, advice and consultancy to ensure current success, anticipate future needs and scalability.
Job Description: seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer with expertise in Kubernetes and containerization environments to join a dynamic and evolving team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing container orchestration infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability.

Responsibilities:
•           Design and deploy Kubernetes clusters, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and security.

•           Administer Linux-based systems and servers, optimizing for performance and reliability.
•           Utilize Docker for containerization in a virtualized Data Center
•technologies.
•           Strong background in Linux system administration, preferably Ubuntu.
•           Familiarity with GitOps and CI/CD tools and practices.
•           Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Zabbix.
•           Experience with Rancher or similar Kubernetes management platforms.
•           Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
•           Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Pluses:
•           Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
•           Experience with Azure cloud services and implementing cloud-native solutions
•           Experience in Higher Education work environments
