Mainframe engineer

Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Mainframe Engineer at Ampstek located in Antwerp, with flexibility for some remote work. The Mainframe Engineer will be tasked with designing, installing, and maintaining the organization's mainframe computer systems. The role requires extensive knowledge of the mainframe environment, including applications, databases, and related languages. As the Mainframe Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability and reliability of our mainframe systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field of study or significant equivalent experience
• Strong knowledge of IBM mainframe environment, COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and VSAM
• Responsible for Application Maintenance of Mainframe Applications (LINC, Unisys Cobol, ECL, SSG).
• Primary – Unisys Cobol, Secondary - LINC
• The resources must all be senior (at least 5 years of experience in Unisys Cobol or LINC development).
• The Cobol expertise of the LINC resources and the LINC expertise of the Cobol resource is an advantage for the candidates.
• French language skills are mandatory.
• Additional skills of .Net/C# will be of advantage
• Regular roles and responsibilities: Application Maintenance and Support, Bug Fixing etc.
• Demonstrated expertise in working with software development tools such as IBM Rational Developer, VAGen, and Endevor
• Proven experience with mainframe system installation and system-level debugging
• Strong understanding of security protocols, database structures, and design
• Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in team environments
• Experience with Agile development is a plus
