Network Engineer
Summary of the job:
The Network Engineer participates in the development of an Enterprise approach to engineering and support services for the H&R Block information technology infrastructure. The scope of control typically includes one or more of the following:
· Networks and data communication
· VPN configuration and management
· Wireless network configuration and administration
· Data center design and support
· On-prem to Public Cloud Connectivity
Responsibilities:
1. Plans, documents, and schedules upgrades and changes to network infrastructure subject to corporate change policy and industry best practices
2. Performs deployments of new IT Infrastructure utilizing H&R Block configuration standards and processes
3. Participates in on-call rotations, including some weekend and off-hour shifts
4. Provides effective and timely resolution to hardware, operating system software or network problems as the Tier 2 escalation point while providing timely and consistent communication on overall status
5. Performs routine system capacity monitoring, planning and implementation, including alert acknowledgement and resolution
6. Performs installations and maintenance in the data center
7. Provides recommendations for improvement of existing services, or new services to the Lead Network Engineer and management
8. Documents new and existing processes, common tasks or infrastructure configurations and creates or maintains applicable diagrams
9. Participates on cross-functional project teams to build, deploy, and maintain IT infrastructure components to meet client business needs and internal IT objectives
10. Applies approved standards, procedures and industry best practices to ensure performance, confidentiality, security, integrity and availability of applicable systems or solutions
Required skills/experience/education:
1. Experience with Cisco Nexus and Catalyst devices
2. Experience in routing and switching technologies including but not limited to
BGP, OSPF, and MPLS.
3. Public Cloud experience in Azure, AWS, GCP (Azure preferred)
4. Experience with SDWAN technologies
5. Experience in creating and updating technical documentation
6. Experience with datacenter operations, including cabling, racking new
equipment and ensuring environmental, electrical and other facility-based
requirements are met.
7. Functional understanding of various infrastructure components of an IT
infrastructure including but not limited to server systems, storage technology,
information security and cloud integration.
8. Analytical ability including network and network systems design, capacity
monitoring, and error detection and resolution techniques.
9. Excellent customer interface skills including problem solving, conflict resolution
and team building, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in
business terms
10. Self-management skills including organization, time management and
prioritization
11. Practical experience with process documentation tools and methods
12. Knowledge of quality assurance techniques and protocols
13. Flexibility and adaptability to a dynamic environment where priorities,
workloads and even technology platforms can change rapidly
14. Experience with Cloud PaaS and/or IaaS networking (Azure preferred)
Preferred (nice to have) skills/experience education:
1. Cisco Certifications (CCNA or above) a plus
2. Knowledge of load-balancing technology, F5 specifically
3. Experience with Cisco ISE
