Clients Nano Scale Science Division has an opening for an experienced laser alignment technician. The selected candidate will work under general direction and from manufacturing process plans, and specifications to perform a wide variety of manufacturing processes for the manufacture of Monolithic Laser Combiner (MLC) systems. Processes may include running optical alignment automation stations, optical fiber assembly and inspection, optical collimator assembly and test, and fusion splicing of optical fiber..

Run optical alignment automation stations to build various optical combiners for the MLC product family.

Perform fusion splicing of optical fiber and monitor transmission and polarization effects of the splice.

Perform accurate and detailed opto-mechanical assembly work.

Perform detailed routing of optical fiber per written procedures.

Work with Class 3B and Class 4 lasers throughout various points of the build process.

Polish fiber tips of optical connectors.

Perform production work using up-to-date production procedures and drawings.

Effectively communicate with both verbal and written word to team members. Proficiently read and understand English to understand work instructions and company communications.

Using Word and Excel as needed to track and store required production / inspection data.

Using the Oracle ERP system track and control work orders and parts.

Ensure work area is kept clean and orderly.

Position may rotate to swing shift.

Requirements

5 7 Years experience in the following areas, preferably working with fiber optics and laser systems:

Running automated optical system equipment

Detailed opto-mechanical assembly of complex fiber based optical systems

Inspection and handling of lasers and optical fibers

Fusion splicing of optical fibers

Adequate visual acuity to perform visual inspection of optical surfaces i.e. color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Ability to work inside a cleanroom environment

Ability to work individually in a team setting with other technicians and engineers.

Ability to cross train in a flexible manufacturing cell environment.

Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities.

Can read and follow written and verbal English work instructions, and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Must have ability to use Windows-based PC (start up, reboot, navigate folders, open or copy files, etc)
