Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Payroll Accountant – Industrial Construction:

#1. Bachelor’s degree is preferred with a major field of study in accounting or business administration.

#2. Minimum of 10 years of work experience in an accounting role.

#3. Professional experience working with payroll processing and administration.

#4. Expert knowledge of payroll tax laws.

 

Responsibilities of the Payroll Accountant – Industrial Construction: 

As a Payroll Accountant, you will:

  • Enter, correct, verify, and transmit weekly payroll information into payroll systems – data entry through check generation.
    • Review timesheet input to ensure accuracy of data, including necessary edits to batch.
    • Ensures court-ordered and tax-levied garnishments are managed appropriately and employees are apprised.
    • Facilitate adjustments and changes.
    • Sort and distribute payroll checks to supervision.
    • Process manual checks as necessary.
    • Maintain records with accrual information related to vacation, supplemental time, and other related files.
  • Manage the computation of lay-off checks as requested from the field.
    • Ensure termination sheets are received and delivered to appropriate union.
    • Assure accuracy of manual check advice and that terminated employees are removed from timesheets.
  • Be responsible for craft verification of employment; facilitate questions and answers.
  • Generate and distribute weekly internal payroll reports to designated recipients.
  • Ensure data retention and information systems are updated and maintained appropriately within defined protocols and standards.
  • Communicate, through the appropriate channels, any observations of noncompliance with established standards, Guiding Principles and Core Values of BMWC, or other violations of policy or illegal actions that place personnel and the company at risk.
  • Perform, with care, any control-related activities required as a function of the position.

Requirements of the Payroll Accountant – Industrial Construction: 

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred with major field of study in accounting or business administration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in an accounting role.
  • Professional experience working with payroll processing and administration.
  • Previous work experience in the construction industry, union trade experience is a plus.
