Responsibilities:

The Power BI Administrator is responsible for the administration, governance, and maintenance of the organization's Power BI environment. This role involves managing user access, overseeing the performance of Power BI services, ensuring data security, and providing support to Power BI users across the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in Power BI, data governance, and a deep understanding of data analytics platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Power BI Administration:
    • Manage and monitor the Power BI environment, including capacity, usage, and performance.
    • Set up and maintain data gateways, data sources, and dataflows.
    • Administer Power BI service, including workspaces, apps, and content packs.
    • Configure Power BI settings, including tenant settings, audit logs, and service-level configurations.
  • User Management:
    • Manage user access and permissions in Power BI, including assigning roles and ensuring compliance with organizational security policies.
    • Provide training and support to Power BI users, assisting them in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
    • Collaborate with business units to understand their data and reporting needs and ensure they are met efficiently.
  • Data Governance and Security:
    • Implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
    • Monitor and audit data usage to ensure compliance with data governance policies.
    • Work closely with the IT security team to ensure that Power BI is compliant with all security standards and protocols.
  • Performance Optimization:
    • Optimize the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring fast and efficient data retrieval and visualization.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues within Power BI, including issues related to data models, DAX queries, and report rendering.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with IT, data engineers, and business analysts to integrate Power BI with other systems and platforms.
    • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on the status and performance of the Power BI environment.
    • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives that involve Power BI.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated with the latest Power BI features, updates, and best practices.
    • Recommend and implement improvements to the Power BI environment to enhance performance, security, and user experience.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in administering and managing Power BI environments.
    • Strong understanding of data governance, security practices, and data analytics.
    • Proficiency in DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Certifications:
    • Power BI certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate) is preferred.
    • IT security certifications are a plus.

Work Environment:

  • This role may require occasional after-hours work to perform updates or maintenance on the Power BI environment
