The Program Manager (PgM) will lead large-scale, multiple, complex projects and/or teams using multiple technologies with possible school-wide or university-wide impact for Harvard Medical School’s digital transformation portfolio on behalf of the IT Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO). The digital transformation portfolio encompasses IT programs and projects serving the administrative and academic mission areas at Harvard Medical School.

 

The role will also support IT governance for these mission areas, assist in aligning strategy with digital transformation portfolio planning through design, review, and prioritization activities, as well as lead and oversee the implementation of IT programs and projects in the digital transformation portfolio. The PgM will develop the digital transformation portfolio in coordination with all IT stakeholders supporting these mission areas.

 

Reporting to the HMS IT Director of Project and Portfolio Management, the PgM for Digital Transformation will closely align their work in support of the HMS IT Director of Information Systems, Director of Teaching and Learning Technologies, and Principal Data Architect, as well as HMS and Harvard technology strategy. The PgM will work closely with other HMS staff to evaluate, align, and implement modern, appropriate, sustainable, and secure platforms and applications.

 

• Assist administration and academic IT Mission Area leads with strategic initiatives, programs, and projects

• Ideate, plan, and document strategic portfolio and funding proposals; support coordination with university strategy

• Facilitate associated committees, review boards, and stakeholder engagement, leveraging discussions for decision-making, change management, and communications

• Analyze health of projects and programs, escalate action plans, and report findings to executive stakeholders across IT and HMS to address prioritization and resource issues

• Responsible for effective staff management, including hiring and orientation, training and development, workflow and performance management, and the promotion of an inclusive and innovative work environment

• Design solutions and lead multiple projects

• Determine and coordinate budgetary and staffing resources (internal, vendor)

• Oversee all aspects of project portfolio throughout project lifecycles to ensure completion within the defined scope, quality, time, and cost constraints

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum of seven years’ post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience

• Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience

• Supervisory experience

 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills

• Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software, and equipment

• Knowledge of advanced IT project management principles (e.g. Agile/Hybrid) and software

• Highly specialized knowledge and understanding of information systems, teaching and learning technologies, and data architecture and integration in an academic and research environment

• Experience with ServiceNow project and portfolio management tools

• Demonstrated team performance skills, service mind-set approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor

• Attitude that supports an Agile working environment

• Ability to serve as a peer coach or mentor technical staff in project management techniques or quandaries

 

Certificates and Licenses

• Completion of Harvard IT Academy Project Management Foundations course (or external equivalent) preferred

• PMP or other relevant certification and experience preferred (e.g., Scrum Master, Six Sigma, PRINCE2 or other)

• ITIL Certification preferred
