This position will utilize a hands-on approach to effectively deal with technical and non-technical issues related to ongoing engineering projects at the Gary Works Pig Iron Caster

Assist the project manager with ongoing activities at the Pig Iron facility and provide daily interaction with operations/maintenance department, contractors, and OEM personnel

Collect and organize production and process data on a daily basis, through field observation and through computer data collection processes

Conduct basic data analysis and present weekly trends to the project team

Track changes to processes, equipment, and practices

Track issues, corrective actions, and effectiveness over time; keep logs and information current at all times

Understand maintenance and construction work scopes; interface with work crews to answer questions and ensure work is done accurately

Report out on daily activities of contractor work crews

Applies basic engineering/scientific principles to investigate existing or proposed equipment, processes, or materials

Consults with other personnel for the development of any aspects requiring specialized engineering/scientific training or experience

Assists in optimizing the safety, efficiency, and output of manufacturing processes through data collection from other technical and operating personnel

Lead daily safety engagement with contractor personnel on site; record and log safety observations; identify risks, solutions, and execute corrective actions

Participates on Continuous Improvement teams with management, engineering, and other staff to improve manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations that facilitate production processes

Skills:

Minimum 2-year degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing Technology

Ability to perform inspections of equipment, lift 50 pounds, climb multiple flights of stairs and/or ladders several times per day

Ability to read engineering drawings

Prepare accurate tickets, job reports, timesheets, and other administrative forms as required

Qualifications:

3-5 years related field experience

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs REQUIRED

Proficiency in AutoCAD – two dimensional drawings – is required
