This role is partially Remote: You will be required to work at least 2-3 days per week in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s office and may work 2-3 days per week from home. The office is located in Falls Church, VA.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the benefit of the American people. The Environmental Conservation Online System (ECOS) is an important component of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s mission. ECOS provides scientists and citizens data regarding threatened and endangered species and conservation of wildlife habitats for approximately 50,000 users. It facilitates the collaborative administration of a network of national lands and waters for the conservation, management, and restoration of fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States.

Inalab Consulting is looking for a senior software developer with a passion for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s mission.

Tasks: Included tasks, but not limited to the following:

  • Data Analysis: Review datasets, extracting valuable trends, patterns, and relevant information. This involves querying databases, cleaning and transforming data, and applying statistical methods to unveil actionable insights.
  • Report Design: Craft the visual narrative, design reports that go beyond mere data representation. Use visualization tools, define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and arrange data elements to ensure clarity and impact.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with data analysts, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and gather feedback to refine reports to align with evolving needs.
  • Technical Skills: Navigate a range of reporting tools with proficiency to develop informative and comprehensible reports and troubleshoot existing reports.
  • Reporting Tools: Expertise in multiple reporting platforms. Translate raw data into visually compelling and understandable reports that cater to diverse needs. · Data Analysis and Interpretation: Possess a deep understanding of data analysis techniques. This involves dissecting large datasets, discerning meaningful patterns, and extracting valuable insights.
  • Programming Languages/Reporting Tools: SQL, PL/SQL scripts and Python to manipulate and extract information from databases. Ability in dealing with complex datasets to customize and troubleshoot reports. Proficiency with Power BI, ETL, SSIS, SSRS, Postgres, Visualization, JavaScript, Data Warehouse, Crystal Reports, C#, Java, FME
  • Soft Skills: In addition to technical skills, possess soft skills that enhance effectiveness in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex technical information in a clear and accessible manner, facilitating collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including data analysts and business leaders.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Exhibit strong problem-solving skills. Adept at identifying issues, analyzing root causes, and devising effective solutions to ensure the accuracy and relevance of reports.
  • Attention to Detail: Display meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the insights presented are accurate, reliable, and aligned with the tasks.
