This job is a part of Motorola 312 Labs, a newly chartered internal innovation group within the Motorola product organization, comprising global research, design and engineering experts focused on first-of-its-kind product development. This group will explore the unknown through research, ideation, concepting, and prototyping to usher in radically different mobile solutions and technologies in both the near and distant future. Motorola has brought incredible innovation to market such as shatterproof screens, moto mods and the foldable razr, wearable 5G neckband with XR headsets, rollable PoC, Adaptive Display concept with AI features and Motorola 312 Labs will continue to accelerate new technologies to market and assist the wider Lenovo Group. Looking ahead, Motorola 312 Labs is focused on a few key research areas including the connected ecosystem of the future, metaverse evolution, exploring new and unique mobile form factors and wearables, advancing displays, and AR & VR technologies.

Scope of Responsibilities for the Motorola 312 Labs position:

 

  • Strong understanding of 3gpp 5G RAN4 standards, regulatory, and carrier requirements
  • Concentration in RF circuits, electromagnetic theory and communication system design
  • Design of transmitter or receiver circuits that are part of new mobile phones. Required skills include RF linkbudget, simulation, circuit design, board layout, testing and optimization.
  • Demonstrate design skills covering a major transceiver circuit block. Experience with schematic capture, board layout and prototype evaluation is required.
  • Working with the RF architecture team to develop and specify next generation receiver, transmitter and RF front-end components
  • Collaborating across hardware and software teams to upgrade existing RF performance and ensure standardization compliance
  • Manage maintenance, calibration and extension for internal lab equipment and test systems utilized for RF performance tests
  • Work with internal Motorola Lenovo global teams (Chicago and China sites) and external labs / partners located in different time zones


     

Basic Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with concentration in the areas of RF, wireless and systems analysis plus 3+ years (internship included) of industry experience on RF design and development OR
  • Master's degree in RF engineering plus 1+ years (internship included) of industry experience on RF design and development 


     

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Knowledgeable in RF Front End circuits such as transmitters, receivers, duplex/diplex filters and related RF circuits/systems
  • Familiar with RF test equipment (i.e. Network Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, CMW500, UXM, CMX, Signal generator, etc.)
  • Understanding of 5G, LTE, WCDMA technologies
  • Proficiency with ADS, Momentum and MATLAB simulation tools
  • Prior experience with tools for schematic and PCB design, such as Cadence
  • Willingness to support global product development, which may include conference calls in multiple time zones and occasional travel
  • Ability to work in collaboration with other teams and disciplines
  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal and team-building skills
  • Experience and familiarity with 5G RF technology
  • Knowledgeable in WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS/location services standards and performance requirements
  • Automation of RF tools to speed up testing
  • Familiarity with Labview, Java scripts, Python, etc are preferred
  • Familiarity with Qualcomm chipset solutions, and the organization and optimization of RF NV
