About the job

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer – Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs for its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). SE’s Energy Storage CoE enables company’s growth through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.

Incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems for UPS and Storage applications…including Module Level, Rack Level and System level.
  • Design, development, testing, debugging, documenting and launch to mass production BMS & Battery Packs that meet regulatory and safety standards, and reliability requirements.

 

Your expertise in BMS firmware design and validation are critical elements for success. This experience combined with a track record of relevant technical innovation, curiosity, communication, structured analytical thinking, sound business judgment and true leadership skills would make you successful in this role.

We are looking for someone who has managed or played a key role in a team that has taken to production a battery management controller and control algorithms in the energy storage or automotive industry.

 

Competencies

Required:

  • Demonstrated Experience Developing BMS firmware algorithm, such as state of charge (SOC) estimation, internal resistance estimation, cell balancing, lifetime prediction, and state of health (SOH)
  • Demonstrated Experience in Development of mission and safety-critical features like charge control, thermal control, fault detection, and diagnostics for battery and energy products
  • Knowledge of all phases of software development life cycle such as requirements, design, coding and validation
  • Demonstrated ability to architect the complete embedded software for the battery management system (BMS)
  • Hands-on experience in testing as well as firmware debugging
  • Demonstrated experience to develop, enhance and debug new and existing real-time software in C and C++ in embedded Linux and RTOS environments
  • Experience driving software development for performance, scalability, modularity and validation.
  • Experience driving improvements with new algorithm development to enhance products performance and capabilities for estimation of capacity, Energy, Power etc.
  • Experience developing solutions that are Cyber Secure

 

Desired:

  • Experience with FMEA and Root Cause Analysis
  • Working knowledge of safety-critical features like charge control, thermal control, fault detection, and diagnostics for battery and energy products.
  • Knowledge of regulatory & safety requirements such as UL9540/UL1973/IEC62619/IEC 60730, etc.
  • Working knowledge of various battery chemistries like Lead Acid and Li-ion
  • Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven

Qualifications: 

· BS or higher in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or proof of exceptional skills in related fields, with practical experience

· Strong software fundamentals including architectural design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability

· 3+ years of experience in battery management systems

· 7+ years of solid experience in embedded firmware development

· 2+ years Agile Product Development experience
