Senior Systems Engineer

Must have's • Must have worked in Academia industry: must have worked recently (current or previous, 2, 3 jobs) at a University or Collage • Minimum  7+ years work experience as a “Systems Engineer” or “Automation Engineer” or “infrastructure automation engineer”  and senior level exp with Puppet versions… • Must have: Migration experience with Puppet (version 3 to 6, oldest to newest) they have to know the old versions and the new • Experience in any of the scripting language Shell, or Perl, or Python, or Ruby • Redhat, Linux versions 6 - 8 • Senior experience with web, database, and OS server configuration (Linux, Apache, and MySQL platforms) • Proven configuration management experience • Large project details: They are Migrating their San Diego Data Center to AWS Cloud - Need a “Puppetmaster” who knows old school puppet, versions 3 - 6 and Red hat versions 6 - 8 and some scripting/automation Job Description • Expertise with automation/configuration management using Puppet   • Good knowledge with Puppet, Puppet’s declarative language to specify system configuration in Puppet manifests, complex resource dependencies, compilation into catalogs for distribution to target systems/servers, and split Puppet Master architecture. • Proven configuration management skills and mindset • Experience maintaining large clusters using configuration tools such as : Puppet/Chef • Strong practical Linux based systems administration skills in a cloud or virtualized environment - Qualifications • Expertise with Puppet Versions from version 3 to newest • Operating highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions • Strong hands-on experience in any of the scripting language Shell, Perl, Python, or Ruby • Experience with revision control source code repositories (Git, SVN, etc- ) • Work with development teams to identify and implement automation in appropriate areas • Knowledge on distributed applications/enterprise applications is plus. • Deep, working knowledge of web, database, and OS server configuration (Linux, Apache, and MySQL preferred platforms) • Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
