  • Someone with strong development skills
  • Familiar and comfortable with the IT development toolchain
  • Proficient in one or more languages (python preferred, Java good too)
  • Role is a mix of IT operations + development skills.
  • Wants someone who won’t run scared from managing incidents, good with observability.
  • Would ideally have the resource split the responsibilities between operational and IT ops.
  • Wants someone who can critically think about how to do something – how do I develop that tool for the maintenance task? IT ops empathy and dev skills and influential in squad to steer things to better reliability and prevent things in architecture to remove dependencies, measure technical debt and risk.
  • Would be good to know about vendor products like ServiceNow.
  • Most of the successful people in this role love troubleshooting and good at digging through issues and can autonomously trouble shoot and have influence on the team.

SRE needs to be done vs. the product owner and needs to push back to help maintain balance
