Sr. Business Analyst

Austin, TX (Remote within US)

6 months Contract with possibility to extension

The worker will engage in Business Analyst activities including conducting research and analysis, creating detailed as-is and to-be business processes/requirements, transforming defined business needs into software requirements, defining use cases to articulate new functional software needs and the roles of each class of application user, assisting business users, project managers and IT leadership in optimizing the scope, benefits, and risks of proposed solutions, managing expectations of users and management, creating and/or reviewing manuals, procedures, and related user documentation; and ensuring documentation is targeted to the appropriate audience. A successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience as a business analyst.

Required Skills:

  • Broad experience conducting requirements research and analysis.
  • Interviewing and listening skills to elicit detailed as-is and to-be business processes/requirements.
  • Analytical skills for transforming defined business needs into software requirements.
  • Experience defining use cases to articulate new functional software needs and the roles of each class of application user.
  • Experience assisting business users, project managers and IT leadership in optimizing the scope, benefits, and risks of proposed solutions.
  • Ability to help manage expectations of users and management.
  • Ability to create and/or review manuals, procedures, and related user documentation; ensuring documentation is targeted to the appropriate audience.
  • Must be skilled in presenting concepts in a concise and focused manner, including narrative, process diagrams, role and accountability diagrams and business-focused story boards or journey maps.
  • Experience applying reporting and workflow tools to business applications to improve work output and business processes.
  • Ability to create effective requirements documents and review them with key project stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong collaboration skills with IT management and staff, contractors, users, and software vendors. • Ability to manage expectations of users and management.
  • Proven track record of adhering to project commitments and schedules and working with a high degree of self-motivation and initiative.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience assisting in the definition of test plans and testing strategies and in the creation of test cases and execution of test scripts.
  • Experience assisting in the definition of roll out, training and user support plans.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Skilled at dealing diplomatically and sensitively with product owners and stakeholders, IT personnel, other contractors, and vendors.
  • Consistent ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment that demonstrates quality customer service in all working relationships, good business sense, and creativity.
  • Expertise in composing clear, complete, accurate and concise correspondence and reports independently using correct grammar, syntax, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Commitment to maintaining the utmost confidentiality of all information.
  • Ability to understand and implement oral and written instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Proven ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Previous Government IT experience.
