RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Monitoring system status, responding quickly to any alerts or user queries

· Research and diagnose bugs, identify the root cause and solve problems.

· Managing significant system outages, directing activities of all development and infrastructure teams to resolve serious production issues.

· Provide feedback to core development groups on longer-term application requirements.

· Help plan new releases and its deployment with development teams.

· Identify improvements to system behavior, support tools and to monitoring tools and undertake system enhancements.

· Interface daily with Front Office and Middle Office; there is considerable exposure to the trading desks and a key requirement is to build strong user relationships.

· Run projects that continue to improve the availability, stability, performance of the system (e.g. monitoring, capacity analysis, failover dry runs).

 

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

 

Essential

· Experience with front line system support, monitoring and acting on system alerts, responding promptly to user requests.

· Great communication skills, both verbal and written

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Knowledge of Linux systems, logging in to remote servers, use of standard UNIX command line tools etc.

· A positive attitude and willingness to learn - both technology and business processes

· Simple scripting - Bash, Python etc

· Working knowledge of RDBMS systems (like Sybase, Postgres etc), use of SQL for data extraction and analysis.

 

Preferred

· Some knowledge of programming languages like Java, C++, Python etc. Ability to review source code in the process of diagnosing system issues.

· Experience automating manual processes using scripting languages like Python.

· Background in the Finance industry, specifically the equities sales and trading businesses.

· Fair understanding of Fix protocols, reference data and market data.

 

Nice to Have

· Software Development experience in a production environment. Software SDLC

· A Computer Science or related degree qualification.

· Experience with distributed, event driven systems and messaging protocols.
