Description

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of network and infrastructure equipment including servers, storage devices, backup systems, network switches, routers, and other network appliances. Work is performed under general supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

§Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot network hardware including servers, storage devices, backups, routers, switches, and other network appliances;

§ Perform preventative hardware and software maintenance tasks;

§ Configure and maintain system-wide backup, storage and recovery systems;

§ Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights;

§ Provide second-tier technical support for users experiencing problems with networking and other technologies;

§ Perform installation and racking of network gear and cabling;

§ Maintain Unified Communications, VoIP, and any related equipment, services, and platforms;

§ Perform system upgrades, patching, and bug fixes;

§ Monitor network and system performance, provide timely responses to system outages and escalate as necessary;

§ Identify and evaluate new hardware and software technologies to improve network performance and reliability;

§ Maintain current and accurate documentation and diagrams of existing and future network infrastructure;

§ Ensure that the network infrastructure adheres to information systems and security policies and directives;

  • Provide after-hours support for infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance;

§ Participate in 24x7 on call rotations;

§ Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

§ Experience troubleshooting challenging technical issues and identifying scope of issue to determine if escalation to next-tier support is necessary;

§ Knowledge of server operations, management and backup/restore processes;

§ Familiarity with Microsoft Window sserver environments such as Active Directory and Group Policies;

§ Knowledge of LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi networks, network systems, network concepts and protocols, structured cabling and facilities;

§ Knowledge of systems infrastructure requirements and standards based on ITIL;

§ Knowledge of best practices for structured cabling for racks and network cabinets;

§ Understanding of cloud computing, virtualization, and storage;

§ Ability to communicate effectively and professionally;

§ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, superiors, and other departments;

§ Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
