Systems Administrator/IBM Workload Scheduler Level 3

Austin, TX 78701 (Hybrid)

The Systems Administrator IBM Workload Scheduler will work in the Enterprise Management Support group of the Information Systems Division. Work involves the upgrade from IBM Workload Scheduler (“IWS”) 9.3 to IBM Workload Scheduler 10.1 (or current version) including design, administration, monitoring and documentation as well as integration with related systems and applications. The work is performed under the general direction of the Enterprise Management Support Team Lead with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities & Skills:

  • Conduct assessment, planning and design review sessions with ERS staff to gather information concerning the current environment and provide and finalize a design recommendation including new features, licensing requirements, high-availability, Active Directory integration and risk assessment as appropriate.
  • Install/upgrade and integrate IBM Workload Scheduler in the ERS Test and Production environments, including Domain Managers, Backup Domain Managers, Console application, Agents, Extended Agents, Peoplesoft integration and any necessary certificates, maintaining all existing configuration, jobs, schedules and other functionality.
  • Provide active knowledge-transfer/collaboration throughout engagement including best practices, general support, guidance and assistance to Information Systems staff primarily responsible for support of the IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) environment and the processes which automate ERS production as well as upgrades, patching and management of the job scheduling infrastructure, software and scripts as needed.
  • Conduct testing and correct any IWS discrepancies in ERS’ environments (as required).
  • Develop and document as-built, best practices and operating procedures pertaining to the environment.
  • Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.

Qualification Requirements/Education and Training:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in data processing, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems or a related field. Each year of related experience may be substituted for one year (30 semester hours) of required college credit.

Certifications:

IBM Workload Automation Implementation; IBM Certified Deployment Professional - Workload Automation or IBM Workload Scheduler for current version(s) of IWS (or demonstrably equivalent knowledge/experience).

Required Experience:

  • Six years’ experience in systems analysis/support, including at least three years’ experience directly implementing/upgrading IBM Workload Scheduler environments, including experience with IWS 9.x and/or 10.x.
  • Strong understanding of scripting including Perl and Powershell.
  • Prefer experience with Peoplesoft integration of IWS.
  • Prefer experience with SFTP services, encryption services and certificate management systems and practices.
  • Prefer experience with networking including routing, subnets, VLANs, firewalls, DNS, and DHCP.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer systems and methods and the techniques used in the design of automated systems.
  • Ability for abstract reasoning and a talent for explaining the abstract concepts in concrete terms.
  • Ability to analyze difficult data processing problems and recommend solutions.
  • Skill in the use of quantitative methods.
  • Ability to understand the business processes that effect each division and what dependencies are in place, work in a team environment; and handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and internal business partners.
  • Understanding of ERS’ systems interaction with outside agencies and vendors as applied to require reporting and data feeds.

Special Requirements/Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office environment. Performs on-call or scheduled after hours work as required.
