Vmware/Linux System Engineer with cloud- Finance domain

Job Summary

Your position involves managing system platforms, including builds and upgrades, troubleshooting, performance evaluations/tuning, and hygiene related activities for the environment. You will be joining a team providing mission-critical systems support, in a fast-paced environment for brokerage, banking, and related financial applications. You will report to the VP manager of Systems Engineering / Hybrid Cloud Engineering Infrastructure Group. A key component of your success will be the demonstration of a strong collaborative spirit and experience working on a team that interacts with other infrastructure engineering teams, application and development teams, and business focused teams.

What will they be doing?

•            VMware – MUST.  Will be building VMs Adding processes or memory. 

•            OS upgrades to existing servers

•            Linux- support, secure, troubleshoot within Linux

•            Server hardware troubleshooting (Dell Servers preferred)

•            Putting image onto new server

•            Break/Fixes

•            Environment is Linux and AWS – Must have experience with both

•            Scripting – any language (Hoping for Ansible/Puppet)

•            Ansible/Puppet – BIG PLUS

•            Strong communication needed

•            Someone needs to be able to manage their time/ be independent

Top skills:

•            Know how to build a server/ apply patches

•            Experienced in RH Linux environment & AWS

•            Understand VMware/VCenter

Core Capabilities:

• Strong Linux skill set across provisioning, supporting, securing, and troubleshooting Linux.

• Strong Server hardware trouble shooting skills (Dell Servers preferred).

• Practical understanding of networking such as network bonding, routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IP, & VLANs.

• Understanding of disk/storage configuration work for Linux servers (file system creation, expansion, migration, and troubleshooting).

• Experience working in both virtual and physical deployments of servers.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Preferable Experience:

• Provides support for Linux/Centos/RHEL Servers and Infrastructure, both on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and on-site.

• Plans upgrades of hardware and applications / systems enhancements / OS patches / HW patches, firmware.

• Develops and conducts tests to ensure solutions meet documented user requirements.

• Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.

• Working knowledge of VMware virtualization using vCenter.

• Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) support experience.

• Performing hardware maintenance and repair activities using DRAC/ILOM.

• Respond, investigate, and resolve technical incidents requiring advanced problem-solving analysis and use of advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues.

• Scripting, automation, and familiarity with Puppet/Ansible is preferred.

• Work with Facilities to troubleshoot server related network and SAN issues.

• Initiate server problems with Vendors and coordinate with Facilities for onsite repair.

Requirements:

• 7 Years Linux/Red Hat/CentOS experience

• 7 hardware server experience
